Electrical Insulating Blanket Materials: Rubber vs Resin

As a core protective product of Passion Safety China, the safety performance and service life of electrical insulating blankets are closely related to their materials. Different materials vary significantly in insulation performance, aging resistance, flexibility, and environmental adaptability, making them suitable for different electrical operating conditions.

Rubber is the most widely used material for electrical insulating blankets. Common types include natural rubber, EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber, and synthetic rubbers such as SBR and neoprene. Rubber insulating blankets provide excellent flexibility, allowing easy folding, storage, and installation around energized equipment. Natural rubber is cost-effective and suitable for standard indoor electrical applications. EPDM rubber offers excellent resistance to ozone, UV exposure, and temperature changes, making it ideal for outdoor high-voltage environments. Synthetic rubber materials provide additional oil resistance and chemical corrosion protection, which is especially useful in industrial and heavy-duty workplaces.

Resin insulating blankets are considered a high-performance option for demanding electrical applications. Manufactured from advanced insulating resin materials, these blankets provide higher dielectric strength, better mechanical durability, and stronger resistance to aging compared to standard rubber products. Resin insulating blankets also offer superior waterproof and oil-resistant performance while maintaining stable structural properties under harsh working conditions. They are commonly used in high-voltage maintenance, substations, and heavy industrial electrical systems where long-term durability and enhanced protection are required.

Selecting the correct insulating blanket material depends on several factors, including operating voltage, indoor or outdoor conditions, exposure to oil or chemicals, ambient temperature, and frequency of use. Both rubber and resin electrical insulating blankets play an important role in electrical safety protection, helping reduce the risk of accidental contact with energized equipment and improving workplace safety in modern power systems.
